So we went to Junion (photo studio) to take pictures of our dance teams. When it came to our turn, the first thing we had to do was taking individual picture. So then it was my turn. The photographer was a guy, I think he’s about 40-45 years old, he’s really energetic.
ANYWAY, after he took the group picture, he called me and he goes “Hey you! You’re foreigner, right?” and I’m like “Oh my gosh did I do something wrong….” So I said, “Yes…why?” then he said “Come here” as he grabbed my shoulders, turned me around and KICKED MY FREAKIN BUTT. And I was like, “Did you seriously just do that??” and he just laughed so I said “Oh is that an American thing or something? Nice to meet you.” then I laughed as everybody else laughed.
Until now, I dont even know why he would kick my butt.
That was the weirdest thing EVER! lmAo

When I was a kid I had a dream on coming to United States. But, at that time I was just a little dork in the 3rd Grade. My uncle has been living in United States. He was the one who inspired me to go to United States. I told my best friend in the class that my uncle was going to take me with him to United States, even though he really did not. My friend had been asking me when I will go up there, but I just said next month, that was what I said on every month until we forgot and stopped talking about it. That was pretty much how I really wanted to go to United States, it made me lie to my own best friend, it made me believe in my uncle when he said that he was going to take me with him and put me in the cabin. I did not know what cabin was at that time. I thought it was a fancy part of the plane for kids.
When I was in the 9th grade, middle school, I was desperately looking for high school scholarship in another country. I punched in every keyword on google, until I finally found this website about AFS, it stands for American Field Service. I started reading it and finding all the information I could get like the address, phone number and that kind of thing. The days after that, my friends and I wandering around a place looking for the AFS office, but we ended up going home empty-handed. The place was closed. I called the AFS officer and told them that I went to the office but no one was there and then they said that the address on the website was the old one, and they had moved to another place, I could have called them before I went there and wandering around not knowing where to go, but I did not. Duh! Anyway, I asked them how to get the scholarship, and they said you have to be in 10th grade to sign up for it, which meant I had to wait for another year in order to be eligible for the scholarship. For me, that is a really long time that I could just forget about it, but I never did, I always remembered in every single day I went through, I kept thinking about what I am supposed to do to go to United States. Until finally the day that I had been waiting for, came up.
When I entered high school, I was disappointed that I did not get in the school that I really wanted to, and I went to this school instead. But I was totally wrong, I know I should not have judged it before I really know the school better. I thought it was just a small school that has nothing to do inside it. But, the fact is, this school is really fabulous with a lot of talented people inside it. No one should really judge this school before they actually go to this school and experience on going through high school life in here. Anyway, when I was in 10th grade and had this little high school love story going on, I decided to sign up for AFS and tried out for the scholarship. The tests were really hard. It was basically 3 stages. The first one was General Knowledge test kind of thing, it tests you on you world knowledge like what’s the 13th president of USA? Who won the Olympic in 2004? they have 100 questions. After that, they interview you in english and our native language to get to know you better. The last but not least, is group activity kind of thing to see how well you interact with people or your community.
The test never ends. It literally took a year to select about 90 kids out of more than 5000 students around Indonesia. How in the world could I be one of those 90 kids? I’ve never imagined in my whole life that I actually can go to United States, hang out in Washington DC, go to Disney World in Florida, travel to several states, meet the governor in the capitol, and all those stuffs that i’ve been dreaming on. It actually came true. After a lot of work that I have done, my dreams came true.
Ever since, I always tell myself not to give up and keep dreaming. If you have dream, at least you have something you want to reach in your life. It’s not like you have dream and then you just sit back relax and wait until it eventually comes true, you have to do some efforts to reach your dream. They are never gonna come true, unless you do something. Always dream high. Don’t ever think that the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon!
